Background
This solution deals with the development, enhancement and maintenance of an Embedded Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) client and its integration with various mobile devices and PDA’s. The customer here is a major mobile and wireless solution provider, involved in the development of embedded mobile applications.

Business Requirement
Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is a system application that enables messaging operations over a variety of media types -images, sounds, animations and text. The requirement here is that of an MMS Client complaint with OMA 1.1, OMA 1.2 and 3GPP TS 23.140 standards along with MMS SMIL version 2.1 for presentation and layout. The requirements also involved re-engineering, enhancements and maintenance support.

Solution
ADI’s Mobile Wireless and Embedded experts developed an MMS library using ANSI C. This library was modularized such that it could be easily ported over a range of devices and included modules like – Editor-Viewer, Parser Packer, Transaction Manager, Message Manager, File System and Transport layer. Each module represents a well-defined set of services and handles a number of MMS-events. With the modularized architecture, a handset manufacturer only needs to pick and choose modules according to the device-feature set, thus providing minimal impact on the integration layer development for the device.
