The Teachers Training Program, Government
of UK, has countrywide franchisees, each
franchise dealing with multiple training
programs and a large number of candidates
enrolled for these programs. For the central
governing authority, managing such a setup,
involves dealing with an enormous data assimilation
task.
TheWall has been designed as a Web based
data management system that collects data
from training centers through web based
forms. Apart from data collection, the system
collates data to populate generic as well
as customized monthly management reports.
These reports are created as graphical views
in the form of charts and graphs –
line graphs, pie charts and so on. The customized
reports form a major analysis tool of the
system, wherein, based on the user-selected
filter criteria aggregate data patterns
can be represented as neat graphical interpretations.
All reports are printable with the use of
Crystal Reports.
This data management system also includes
a data import-export module which, according
to the requirements allows data imports
from Lotus Notes and data exports to commonly
used software packages like MS Word and
MS Excel. During the course development,
data security constraints were efficiently
handled with the help of system log on/log
off alerts.
On the testing front, performance tuning
of IIS 5.0 web server as also stress testing
was carried out using the OpenSta testing
tool. Data store and retrieval was optimized
on the SQL Server and the ColdFusion Server
with the use of tools like SQL Profiler
and NT Perfmon.
With a team size of 4 developers, 2 QA’s
and a manager, TheWall spanned over 16 months
of rigorous designing, development and testing
phases. Implementing a system like TheWall
has added a great deal to ADI’s
Knowledgebase in terms of developing large
scale data management systems. |
